Small Spaces, Big Impact: Transform Your Home One Step at a Time
By Megan Feeney, Owner of Heaven at Home
Tackling home design projects can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re staring at a long list of renovations. At Heaven at Home, I always remind my clients that home transformations don’t have to happen all at once. Breaking projects into smaller, bite-sized pieces—starting with specific spaces—can make all the difference.
If you’re looking for an easy way to refresh your home, focus on those often-overlooked areas like entryways, corners, nooks, and stairwells. These small spaces can create a big impact with just a few intentional design choices.
Start with the Entryway
Your entryway is the first thing guests see, and it sets the tone for your home. Adding a stylish bench, a statement mirror, or a console table with decorative accents can make it both functional and welcoming. Even a fresh coat of paint or bold wallpaper can redefine the space.
Maximize Unused Corners
Every home has an awkward corner that feels like wasted space. Instead of ignoring it, turn it into something purposeful. A cozy reading nook with a plush chair and warm lighting, a tall plant for a touch of greenery, or floating shelves with framed art can transform an empty corner into a design moment.
Revamp Nooks and Alcoves
Built-in alcoves and small nooks offer unique opportunities to add personality to your home. Consider turning a nook into a mini home office, a coffee station, or a display area for treasured keepsakes. Sometimes, all it takes is a statement light fixture or new shelving to make the space shine.
Elevate Your Stairwell
Stairwells are often forgotten, but they’re a great place to add character. A gallery wall with family photos, a runner with a pop of color, or decorative railing updates can make your stairwell a standout feature.
By focusing on these smaller projects first, you’ll gain momentum and confidence to tackle bigger home updates. Small changes can lead to beautiful transformations—one step at a time!
